| I just ordered some stuff from Breakaway including the impact shields. My question is how do you use them? What is the shrink tube for? What would be the ideal line size, can you use steel with them? Any pics or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

If you purchased the impact shields to build your own rigs, the little piece of shrink tube is what helps secure the impact shield to the line. It must be cut to size.
When building your leader you must first insert a single crimp (bead stop) over your line, then a bead, the impact shield follows then the piece of "rubber" once you have all these in place, slide the "rubber" (which is on the line) over the bottom part of the impact shield. This helps to keep the impact shield from sliding freely on the line and allows you to adjust it accordingly. Once you have done that simply add a crimp, make a small loop and crimp in a clip for the weight. Don't forget to crimp the bead stop.
I have used mono up to 125 lb test and coated cable to 270 lb test and it works fine. I like using 80 lb test for general rig making and use it for most applications.
It should look like this, however, a little more line below the shield is advised.

I like the IMP clips.
they are smaller and work very well on small Pompano rigs |
